Research at the LTDS focuses on sensory engineering, tribology, system dynamics and the mechanics of heterogeneous solids, from infinitesimal-sized to human-scale objects.
The LTDS principally undertakes multidisciplinary research in solid mechanics, chemistry and material physics. It brings together a community of scientists, engineers and technicians to develop complex surfaces and interfaces, carry out high-level experiments and create models for understanding or predicting surface and interface phenomena and their consequences.
The LTDS also plays a major role in imparting scientific and technological knowledge to future engineers.
The “Interface Tribology, Physics-Chemistry and Dynamics” team is a core part of the laboratory and performs research into understanding deep down the phenomena of contact, friction, wear and lubrication.
